with Marin Nass and The Dolphin Show, December 2015
Shanley Pavilion, a glorified shed hiding behind Northwestern's math building, serves as the venue for nearly all the student-produced performance on campus. Rumors fly around campus about Shanley's former lives as an army barracks, the bookstore, and a hippie coffee shop. With co-creator Marin Nass, Hartman delved into the University archives and interviewed Alumni to resurrect the Shanley of the early 1970s: the Amazingrace Coffeehouse. By interspersing reenacted interviews and imagined moments of history with performances from local singers, songwriters, rappers, and poets of today, the ambitious piece attempted to resurrect a revolutionary spirit of the past.
